Park Forest officer critically wounded in shootout; suspect killed

A Park Forest officer was fundamentally injured in a gunfight early Saturday morning that left a 21-year-old suspect in the shooting dead, commanding voices in the south suburb said.

Officer Tim Jones, carried to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn healing center with life-debilitating wounds, experienced surgery for a gunfire twisted to the right half of his face close to his jaw, Park Forest Village Board Trustee JeRome Brown said. The surgery was finished not long after 2 p.m. what's more, Jones is currently in escalated care, Brown said.

Jones was harmed in a trade of gunfire between Park Forest police, reacting to a call of a break-in at an empty home, and a unidentified man who opened shoot at the living arrangement, police said. The suspect, distinguished as Thurman Reynolds, of the 400 square of Huron in Park Forest, was shot and murdered by officers, authorities said.

Neighbors heard up to twelve discharges in the normally calm neighborhood. Powers would not affirm the quantity of shots discharged or what number of officers were on scene amid the occurrence.

The suspect's body had not been expelled from the shooting scene close to the home in the 300 square of Neola Street starting 2:30 p.m. Officers from the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation unit cleared the zone with metal identifiers and took photographs of the scene.

Barbara Stephens, who lives on the same piece as the home where the shooting happened, was stirred by the gunfire.

"I knew it was discharges," said Stephens, 69. "Whatever I did was cover my head with a cover and twist up. Since it seemed like it was in my terrace."

After the shooting, police thumped on entryways in the area to check whether anybody had been harmed, Stephens said. She couldn't review a shooting occurring in the range in the 40 years she's lived in her home.

Reynolds kicked the bucket at the scene, as indicated by police.

The shooting happened at around 5:40 a.m., when officers touched base to explore a thievery call at the Neola Street house, as indicated by police. Officers found a stolen vehicle found at the area.

The suspect inside the home came outside after officers set up an edge around the building, police said. He pulled a handgun and started shooting when officers attempted to confine him, police said.
