Man tried to rape acquaintance

A 31-year-old man was captured after he attempted to assault a 20-year-old colleague — and afterward battled with the informer's companion in an extravagance Battery Park lodging Sunday morning, police said.

The two ladies claimed that the man attempted to compel himself on one of them in a room at the elegant Conrad New York Hotel, on North End Ave. close Vesey St., around 6:40 a.m., powers said.

He then turned his animosity towards the second lady when she attempted to stop him, police said.

The man fled the scene after the affirmed assault, however overlooked his wireless in the room and returned later that morning. He was captured when he returned for the telephone.

Both informers, who police said knew the man, rejected restorative consideration.

Rooms at the Conrad, an all-suite lodging that is a piece of the Hilton chain, range from $250 to $2,000 for the presidential suite.

Charges were pending Sunday evening.
